Our client a manufacturer of finest custom-made furniture for high end projects in the UK and abroad, have an exciting opportunity for a procurement specialist to support the workshop and drawing department. This job will suit a versatile all-rounder with a good knowledge of the custom-made furniture and joinery industry.
Although experience in procurement would be extremely beneficial, training can be given in the role providing the applicant has the following skills.
* The ability to prioritise your time and be extremely proactive, looking around corners and mitigating problems in advance.
* Good understanding of how timber furniture is made. Preferably worked as a cabinetmaker in the past.
* Ability to read and interpret CAD drawings.
* An understanding of how fully fitted furniture and panelling are incorporated into a building and the integration of appliances and sanitary ware.
* Good people skills and the ability to build relationships with suppliers.
* The ability to be able to recognise and control quality.
* A natural inclination to find the best possible price when buying.
The job involves carrying out the following roles.
* Preparing materials take offs from CAD drawings and from discussions with our designers.
* Research materials and fittings and contribute to the design development process.
* Negotiating prices with suppliers to meet project budgets.
* Ordering timber, sheet materials, veneers, custom made metalwork, furniture fittings.
* Chasing up orders to ensure timely deliveries.
* Checking the quality of the goods bought and their suitability for their intended use.
* Storing and distributing materials to the makers.
* Maintaining / checking stock levels.
Due to the varying workload, it is anticipated that the right candidate will develop further skills within the office environment to enable them to help in other areas. This is potentially an interesting and evolving role. Your entry into the company would be as a buyer with plenty of opportunities to develop skills and progress.

Review and propose a system to optimise the storage and distribution of materials to makers.
Enhance the buying system – optimum quality sourcing, price negotiating, relationship development, most timely delivery etc., all play a part in creative cost saving.
Innovative R&D and prototyping with materials and fittings, supporting the design office.
Devising methods of procurement that link to our use of SolidWorks and the production of bills of materials and the use of optimisation software.
Design development – being an integral part of the process for choosing the most appropriate material and their correct use and contributing creative suggestions.
Sourcing sub-contractors and overseeing the production of components and materials.
Developing skills in estimating.
